Smithtown Resident Alex Fezza Is Appointed
Executive Director of Breast
Cancer
Help, Inc.
Breast Cancer Help, Inc. announced the appointment of Alex Fezza as
Executive Director.
Mr. Fezza has been a member of Breast Cancer Help’s Board of Directors
for the past 12 years, most recently as its senior vice president. A resident
of Smithtown, NY, Mr. Fezza first became involved with Breast Cancer Help when
his late wife Mary was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Now a retired manager of customer service for the United States Postal Service,
Mr. Fezza began an aggressive campaign for insurance coverage for stem cell
infusion for federal workers and their spouses, ultimately effecting a change
in the law.
“There is no better way to spend my time and honor my late wife than
to continue my mission to bring about awareness of breast cancer,” Mr. Fezza said. “Breast
Cancer Help, Inc. is committed to finding a cure and to helping women and men
affected by this insidious disease.”
Breast Cancer Help, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization co-founded by breast
cancer survivor Lorraine Pace to spread awareness of the disease, promote education,
and serve other patients and survivors with social support and wellness programs.
In 2001, Breast Cancer Help purchased the first digital mammography unit on
Long Island at Stony Brook University Medical Center. The digital mammography
detects images of small tumors that traditional film-screen mammograms may
not. In 2003, Breast Cancer Help opened its Long Island Cancer Help and Wellness
Center, now located at North Shore-LIJ Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.
Mr. Fezza graduated from West Babylon High School and received a degree in
business administration from the New York Institute of Technology. He retired
as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Naval Reserve.
“Alex is a tremendous asset to Breast Cancer Help, Inc. and a tireless
advocate of breast cancer research, awareness, and prevention,” Pace
said. “We
are extremely pleased to have him as executive director.”
