Events Calendar

There are many ways that the general public can support Breast Cancer Help, Inc. in its endeavors. Through the year we have many events, some initiated by our group and some by corporations and individuals.BCH_pix_eventAnnual Gala
We have an annual gala at Villa Lombardi’s with over 600 people attending this year. The milieu is light and jovial even though breast cancer is traumatic. At the gala we give away several airline tickets, sell raffles and the food is nonpareil. We constantly need volunteers to help organize, to sell tickets, distribute gifts to the guests, etc. If you are interested in attending next year’s gala it will be held on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001 at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook, New York.

Clothing Bins
Another major fundraiser we have is the ongoing collection of used clothing. We have 200 clothing bins in strategic locations throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Not only does this money go toward the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment at the University Hospital at Stony Brook, but it also enables poor people in Mexico to buy decent clothing at bargain prices. If you are a commercial real estate owner or in a position to donate space for a clothing bin, please call Harry Ballard at (425) 450-7063. You can also call Harry for more information on bin location to donate clothing. All bins are insured and the area is kept tidy.

Coupon Books
Another way that you can assist us is by advertising in our coupon books or by purchasing them. We have teams of students throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties selling these books door-to-door. The companies advertising in these books are indigenous to the surrounding area of the sale, i.e. books sold in the Oakdale area will be for merchants in East Islip, Bohemia and Sayville. If you have a small business and would like to advertise in our books please call Joe Romeo at (302) 920-5452.

Haircut-a-thons & Car Wash-a-thons
We have many other functions throughout the year that you can either support or initiate on your won such as hair cut-a-thons at Shear Instincts in West Islip or Casa Blanca in East Islip. These events are a lot of fun since normally they have DJ’s, refreshments and many raffle prizes. We have walks such as the one in Lindenhurst in conjunction with Life Teen at Our Lady of Perpetual Help and car wash-a-thons.

Golf Tournament
We also had a golf tournament at Birchwood at Spring Lake on Oct. 12. This was actually organized by their community association.
